Gateway of the Giants
Overview
This sunset at Natural Bridges Viewpoint in the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor is one of the scenes that keeps pulling me back to the southern Oregon coast. I have traveled down to Samuel H. Boardman so many times, and every single visit reminds me why this coastline feels unreal. The cliffs, the forest, the sea stacks, the carved rock arches — it is all raw beauty stacked on top of more beauty.
At Natural Bridges, the ocean cuts through the rock like it was sculpted on purpose, forming a glowing corridor that lights up when the sun drops low on the horizon. On this evening the sky turned into fire and poured its color straight into the cove, reflecting warm gold and soft red across the water. The trees on the cliffs caught that last bit of light and the whole coastline felt alive.
Samuel H. Boardman never looks the same twice. Some days it is fog and mood, some days it is clear and calm, and on rare days like this, everything aligns — the sky, the water, the cliffs, the arches. This photograph captures that moment when the Pacific Northwest feels like another world.
